The average attendance of a school for any period is the total number

of attendances made during that period divided by the number of school

meetings.

Similarly the average enrolment for any period is the total number

of attendances possible during that period divided by the number of school

meetings.

The following shall count towards school time for ordinary attendance

purposes;-

(a) Interruptions of secular instruction by reason of arrangements

necessary for medical inspection.

(b) Any time occupied by visits paid during the school hours to places of

educational value, or by field work or ramblesas approved by the

Director

(c) Any time occupied by central examination attended by pupils with the

sanction of the Director.

(a) Any time spent during the ordinary school term under arrangements and

according to a Time Table approved by the Director at an open-air

school, school camp or other place selected with a view to an improve-

ment of the health and physical condition of the pupils.

In winter, schools shall normally meet twice a day for morning and

afternoon sessions.

In summer,

if it is so desired, the afternoon session may be omitted

and the morning session lengthened.

(i) The normal school hours shall be not less than 26 hours per week

in winter and 23 hours per week in summer, of which not less than 241

and 22 hours per week respectively shall be for ordinary secular

subjects, (May to September inclusive) excluding breaks for recreation.

No curtailment of these hours shall be permitted except in the case of

lower primary classes and classes below Class 8.

No session should exceed two hours duration without a suitable

break for recreation.

(ii) No pupil shall be compelled to attend Religious Instruction.

Schools shall meet not fewer than 191 days in the course of the year,

less any days they may be closed for medical or other approved reasons,
